I've done a few successful April fool's gags at work but you have to be careful.

Last year I parted my hair on the other side and played dumb when coworkers asked why I looked different. Only 2 figured it out until I finally "revealed" it to the office gossip and it spread around the office around the end of the day. If it doesn't require clean up or interrupt the day in general, you're probably good.

I purchase a large leek and hide it around work and then enjoy the mayhem as I tell people "there's a large leak in the bathroom/your office/etc"
