I don't get why the Demoulas sign says maket basket.
(I still call the Hannaford in Portsmouth Pic 'n' Pay. The name changed 20+? years ago. I don't like change.)

Don't you mean Hannaford was Shop n Save previously?
Hannaford bought a bunch of independent grocers, including PicNPay and ShopNSave.

Yes, apologies. I tried to edit and came out backwards

I still call the 7-11 on the Kittery circle Christy's
dedoubt t1_j3ovk7l wrote
It's a 7-11 now??? I don't think I've looked at the sign in years.
GoodDecision t1_j3ow7x5 wrote
Has been for decades. I was really young when it was Christy's Market. We also call the Pine Tree Country Store on Rt. 1 Tom's... but that's a deeper, more obscure cut.

Hysterical! As I read the sign, I thought “yuh, that’s pretty much it.”
DidDunMegasploded t1_j3pkqmi wrote
It's probably the camera angle but that Market Basket looks like it has the same amount of space as a Dollar Tree. Smallest Mahket Basket in the world!

One thing I found out that is weird is NE folks call athletic shoes sneakers and from the midwest, we call them tennis shoes.

I still call the 7 Elevens around NH and MA the White Hen Pantry. I don't think I've seen them in 15 pls years.

Main Street Grocery in Damariscotta is probably always gonna be "Yellow Front" to some folks. (Myself included.)
But I don't remember it taking very long for anyone to stop calling Rite Aid "Laverdiere's (Pharmacy)." Now that it's Walgreen's, I still say Rite Aid from time to time, but maybe that's just old age creepin' up on me.
I bet someone with skill and the right software could add an 'H' to that photo. 8)

I remember White Hen. Only ever saw them down in MA, but now that you mention it, haven't seen one in about the same amount of time!

Scamhunter5171 t1_j3ue6j3 wrote
Yup. I'm a "transplant" to Maine, and that wasn't long after I moved here. I think they built the new store in Damariscotta, and shortly after, got bought up by Rite Aid.
Waltz's Pharmacy's space in Scottyville became part of Reny's when the Underground location expanded, but I think they still have a pharmacy in Waldoboro.
:The only constant is change," and all that, but I don't recall seeing anything that said I hafta like change.
Hoping to get picked for a role in Grumpiest Old Men, if someone decides to make a Part III. 8-D

We call sneakers designed for playing tennis “tennis shoes”. It would be weird to call, like, basketball sneakers “tennis shoes” though.
