Why would you find it scary, Richie? Just a statue, you just fell asleep...

He doesn’t look as big now with the new arena behind him.

And he’s presiding over a 4 lane road while staring at a brick casino wall

There is a picture somewhere that shows, that from a certain vantage point, it looks like he’s giving the finger. Maybe that would help you not being scared of him.

I mean, he is a lumberjack after all, I'd bet a not-insignificant number of them at the time were missing fingers

That's actually the end of his Peavey. Why people aren't upset that he has his Peavey out in plain sight is beyond me...

It does portray Paul as having a somewhat sinister grin, not to mention a rather maniacal glint in his eyes...

So, I briefly worked across the road at Hollywood Casino at the command center and we have limited view from the surveillance cameras (surveillance is a separate gestapo unit) and sometimes on a slow night surveillance will wait til you're not looking at your monitors and set every one of them to be a close up of Paul Bunyan's face from one of the parking garage cameras

Growing up in MN I always thought Paul Bunyan was a Midwest thing…weird! Don’t you know how the Mississippi River was formed? Paul Bunyan dragged his Axe behind him on his way south. Why does MN have so many lakes? Those are Paul and Babe’s footsteps.

Uh so there’s one in Bangor? Weird… never seen it but that looks like the one in Rumford!

xiangdo t1_j9sow3z wrote

The one in Rumford is actually a repurposed "muffler man" statue. A chain of muffler shops had them made to be an eye-catcher for their store locations, the hands being oriented to hold a muffler replica scaled to match the statue. When the shops closed the statues were often purchased and modified to suit other purposes.

There are several around the country that have been converted to Paul Bunyan facsimiles. Google "muffler men", or search the site Roadside America to see some.

This one is way nicer than the one in Bemidji, MN but that one does have an odd charm to it I suppose
