I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to post this here, but I need some guidance. I (f25) have a little brother (age 9) who plays drums. It’s his favorite thing in the world. Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances (I don’t want to get into to much detail but it involves a family friends death) my little brother will no longer have a drum set, which means no more music lessons. It will crush him. And I’m afraid because of his age he won’t be able to comprehend why they were taken away. I want to purchase him a new set, but I know absolutely nothing about drums. My budget is $3,000 but I’m not sure if that would even cover buying him a new set. But if it would, what drum set do you think I should buy for him? I’ll have to have the set shipped to him, but mail fees are not included in my budget. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

If he is located in the US, I recommend using the Nextdoor app or Facebook marketplace to find a local person selling a used drum set in his local area. Maybe they would deliver. I have had great success getting used instruments locally for reasonable prices.

A basic kit without a double bass will cost you anywhere from $250 to $800.

Check out the websites for Guitar Center or Sweetwater Music.

Ludwig and Yamaha are both decent brands, especially for his age and skill level.

I’m not a musician but Amazon has many sets, $3k seems like way more than enough to get something

$3,000 should be more than enough for a really good drum kit. I'm not sure what exact drum kit you should get, but i would look into brands such as Pearl, Ludwig, Tama, and Yamaha (I might be forgetting another big one). I would order a drum kit from Sweetwater.com.

Check Facebook market all kinds of great sets for 500 dollars. 3k is custom drum territory. Just make sure you get him hearing protection and a good throne aka drum chair

For example, a set of Pearl Exports (good for beginner / intermediate drummers) can be had for under $1000. Pearl uses some excellent hardware for the price. There's lots of options/brands though.

$3000 can get you a really nice kit. But it's not necessary.

Repost this on r/drums, they'll be able to help you in more detail, and have info about second hand options. They also have a buy/sell section.
