Tough men doing a dangerous, rough job for measly pay in most mines. Kids today have no appreciation of how their great grandfather's toiled in these jobs back in the day. Men were hurt or died in those mines and respiratory problems were common place.

There are plenty of young people who work in factories or the trades. I'm one of them. I've been an ironworker 12 years and I'm only 33.
Having respect for the conditions people used to toil under really comes down to whether you heard stories from older relatives about sketchy work places of the past or not.
