Wow, I'm impressed TSA caught it.

I swear, I flew back and forth through LVIA a dozen times with a pocket knife, not a word... finally they go "hey you can't have this!", I tell them I flew with it last week through here, ... and the TSA agent literally says to me "Its like drinking and driving, you'll get away with it sometimes, but eventually you'll get caught"...

let that sink in

This whole situation is so unhinged. It was a checked bag and alarms went off when the explosives were detected. And for some reason they felt the right move was to call the bomber over the airport PA system and ask him to report to the security desk. As any reasonably intelligent person could have predicted, he fled the airport instead. Fortunately, the bomber was personal friends with the sheriff former police chief who was able to help the FBI track him down.

Honestly so many more questions than answers here.

A buddy of mine gifted me a taser to keep on me as I walked to my night classes in the city. It was a super safe part of town, so I just kinda tossed it in a random pocket in my backpack and forgot about it. I must have flown with that backpack half a dozen times before TSA found it, and that’s only because I’d lost my drivers license and they’d only let me fly with advanced screening.

Not related, but it reminded me of the story.

Years ago, a music teacher was celebrating the 4th of July with his family. His kid was helpful and packed all the leftover fireworks into his suitcase. You can imagine what happened when they got to the airport, the way I understand it, the teacher now needs a full search anytime they fly, which is often.

Just a few months after 9/11 a friend went through LVIA with a pocket knife and pepper spray and they didn't say a word. He was smoker and they had already seen 1 lighter in his stuff and just assumed the other 2 lumps were the same.
