This would be great for the people that have small amount in unclaimed property for whom filing a formal claim is either not worth the effort or basically impossible. Comcast owes me like $300 from some kind of settlement from a decade or so ago, but I can’t get the money because I don’t have a copy of my lease from back then. This bill would allow me to get that $$$.

Yes. It's so dumb right now. They know who they have money for. You just need to claim it by producing so much paperwork in some cases and getting signatures notarized that often it's not worth the time/effort.

They don't.
There is no tie between a name and a physical person. Unlike a social security number. Names are not unique. And even if they were, there is no definitive database of addresses where checks can be sent.

What address are they writing on the envelope for the check?

Maybe the address of the Comcast contract?

Stacy Garrity has done a great job as treasurer. It’s not a high profile position but she’s done a lot with the office. If anyone has a PA 529 account you’d already know. She’s also done a lot with transparency as well. I wouldn’t mind seeing her run for governor but as long as Shapiro doesn’t make any waves, I think it’d take a higher profile politician from the GOP to beat him.

The PA 529 still isn't great. I use Ohio. NYS is good. So is Iowa. Anything basically run by vanguard has much cheaper fees.
.
The good thing is that the PA income tax credit for 529 contributions can be used for any state 529.
The PA 529 fees were even worse 10 years ago. But they're still not the most competitive.

As a normal guy who hasn't owned property but has floated through a handful of jobs, I'm sure I've lost final checks or cashing out 401k. Is this something I can use to check that?

Yup.

Wait, is it a system to be implemented? Or is there a local website I can login to, to run a check?

Google "pa.missing money" or the "pa treasurer's office". They both have links.

Filed 3 claims in early December, still waiting for them to do something with any of them. One had 10 supporting documents included to try and avoid any issues. (That one was for my late father who passed 16 yrs ago.)

So I had missing property. Nothing much, it was like a $0.60 check from Google. It never got cashed because it was addressed to an address I haven't lived in since I was a kid.
If they started writing checks and sending them out, how would they get my current address? Otherwise, wouldn't it just go right back into the system?

I'm thinking they would refer to state or local tax forms.
