Man, if I was part of that group, I'd have not lost the opportunity and chipped in the remaining 88 bucks.

It's fine as long as the school equally rejects donations for all religions equally, right?

TLDR:

Northern York High School

The group held a fundraiser to benefit the school/students. Raised$578 but it was rejected by Superintendent Steve Kirkpatrick and suggested to them they donate it to a Christian nonprofit instead.

Technically not.

TST is non-theistic.

LOL Christians get rock-hard passing oppressive laws attacking LGBTQ+, minorities, and liberals, and they love fucking with our elections with their tax-free money and their echo chamber churches where they tell people how to vote subtlety.

And here you are crying like your religion is getting victimized. Projection and lack of empathy is one of Christofascist's biggest tools.

I figured as much. They're the ones who banned the Satanist's afterschool club

This is such a bummer. There is no reason not to accept their fundraised money except ignorance. Boo.

Then don’t take money from the insurrectionists either.

Too late! Even worse the superintendent already spent the money on a brand new swimming pool!

I think this is the same school who didn’t allow an after school meeting held by the TST, even after they explained it wasn’t to convert the children it’s just to encourage them to think for themselves. But we all know Christian’s don’t like people thinking outside the book.

They only pursue After School Satan clubs (which focus on tutoring and reinforcing science lessons) at schools that have Good News clubs (fundamentalist evangelical program). In places where the Good News club was shut down, they ended the After School Satan clubs. They are only to provide an alternative to religious indoctrination as after school on campus childcare.

Sapphire-Kitty-Witch t1_iscnlbl wrote

What a shame. Schools could have used those supplies.

But indoctrination over education, am I right?

Hashslingingslashar t1_isdiif0 wrote

Pathetic. Punishing kids over this. The Christians in the country are far more similar to Islamic extremists they purport to hate than they’d like to admit. Christian sharia law has no place in this country.

I was way too old when I realized that the people lynching blacks in the south were sometimes on their way home from churches to stop and participate.

It’s obscene that teachers need to fund classroom supplies out for their own pocket.

ycpa68 t1_isj6zh8 wrote

Here is the thing, I'm involved with this district's fundraising foundation (before anyone jumps on this we actually have turned down religious and political donations because we do not want to appear influenced by either, but this article is referencing donating directly to the district, which is a separate entity from us). It completely demoralizes me when I can see hundreds take an evening to protest masks or satanists or whatever other boogie man is out this week but can't spend an evening helping raise money for school supplies for teachers.

bontakun82 t1_iseyuow wrote

Ya know, I grew up in a fairly secular area. My parents taught me the importance of actually thinking. I did go to church with my grandparents as a kid but my grandfather still taught me to think. I would watch movies that portrayed areas of the country in the 50s and 60s as "we have to stop Satan" and just laughed it off like "lol man am I glad that insanity is only for fringe nut bags."

But it really made a scary comeback. These crazy Christian white nationalists, like Doug mastriano, really do think they are the last line of defense between the heathens and the good white Christians. We used to have a separation of church and state, now we have elected officials openly trying to make this a Christian country.

huzernayme t1_isek99u wrote

So if the school takes donations from another religion, could you then sue them to force the money on them?

Deerbooty t1_isenavs wrote

This is an outrage. We all know the Govt. won't do anything for schools other than bear minimum. I can see where parents would freak out though lol

[deleted] t1_isg5knx wrote

Why do teachers have to pay for supplies? That's like me having to buy a crane, to be a crane operator. If you are working with a company, in their case, a school, why do they have to pay for their jobs materials? It literally makes no sense.

woodchukka t1_iserlx3 wrote

I’m sure the school district will find a way to get through the season without five hundred and seventy eight bucks

What would that have paid for…?? A new whiteboard in the music room…?

Butternades t1_isesdsp wrote

How about the fact that teachers often spend hundreds out of pocket on classroom materials

woodchukka t1_isesog2 wrote

I’m not disagreeing here but my comment was a bit more insulting towards the Satantic Temple in that their efforts (though applauded) are likely preferred elsewhere

Hahaha

Funny. Seems they raised more for that school than you did. I think you should match their donation, since it was so low and shitty.

Nice strawman.

Here are the 7 tenets of The Satanic Temple. Find me a church that comes close to this level of morality.

https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/about-us

I One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

V Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

VI People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

Ks_Mom22 t1_isf73q2 wrote

I'm Muslim and can tell you that we don't come close to any of this either.

Halal meat is supposed to be as compassionate as you can get. You can't slaughter another animal in front of another or even let them see the knife. You have to be quick with a sharp blade, the animal must have received all appropriate medical care food, water etc in its life. But Muslims find that too inconvenient to keep up with their meat heavy diets, so they've simplified this to you just have to say "in the name of God" before eating it, even if it's from McDonalds.

Yesterday I brought this up and said even disbelievers are having more compassion for animals than we are and no one said a word. Yet, here it is in the Satanic temple! And I believe they actually live by it too. Good for them. Hopefully they can teach the "beleiveing" people a thing or two.

TST more "libertatian" than Libertarians. But also more liberal than liberals.

At one point there were atheist libertarians in the USA, but when it became the "fuck you got mine" party for 2a chriatian right wingers; they ruined that term.

At one point libertarian meant paying your taxes to help everyone. That ended decades ago.
