When I ask if the local fire department should operate on an individual pay system (where if you don't pay they don't put out your house, but if your neighbor pays they have an obligation to protect your neighbors house from your fire) my Republican relatives all very adamantly say no. And when I explain we all collectively pay taxes to protect other people's house fires they nod and say yes. And when I'm like... But that's a socialist benefit... They get angry with me and redirect the subject to well we can't overdo things like that.

If they can't concede that there are even benefits to public services that they are ACTIVELY benefiting from... I don't know how to reach them. I give up.

The amount of times I've been told "If you don't like it here then just leave..." Is insane. But yes, I'm actually working towards moving out of this country because I fear for my future here.

It’s the same when explaining that Karl Marx helped lay the foundation for our modern labor unions. Social security, Medicare, all the things these boomers are starting to take advantage of are social programs which are SOCIAList in nature. Pig headed capitalist brainwashing is dooming us.

Everything is evil until it hits close to home. Look at Herschel Walker now, big anti-abortionist GOP dickhead, is now being accused of paying for his mistress’s abortion to cover his own ass, not even for health reasons.

A woman’s right to choice is not debatable, it’s a right. Someone who wants to get married to someone of the same sex is not up for debate, it’s a right. Someone who doesn’t want to be what they were assigned at birth and wants to make a change to their life and have a fulfilling and happy life, that shouldn’t be up for debate, that should be a right.

The things that are on the ballot this election shouldn’t even be there. We need to shut these Christian nationalists down, send them back to their 2am meetings in the fields with their white hoods where they belong.

People really don't want to put a name to the christian nationalist movement. I guess if you refuse to give it a name it doesn't exist? Idfk

5 years ago I told my husband that I would lose my right to choose and he laughed. He said I was panicking over nothing - that would never happen... And yet here we are.

I wish I knew how to better convince people of the increasing threat of this Christian based extremism. They know how to manipulate their runs for office, they said what 50 years ago they were coming for the supreme court so they could overturn Roe? And look, they fucking did it! If they can successfully undermine what is possibly the highest power in our country... They can utterly fuck your state's government, too.

This isn't your classic backwoods KKK Christian BS, this is a much more palatable extremism with a friendly Christian face but it's a movement to push us towards a theocracy none the less. And in a country supposedly based on religious freedom, their progress to push their beliefs onto non believers through legal punishment/persecution should be terrifying. But people just don't see it.

They're too exhausted trying to survive. I am, too, but my gut feeling tells me to get out while I can. If this movement doesn't slow, I don't want to know what this country will look like in 20 years.
