I’ve been out since Friday morning, and MetEd still doesn’t have an ETA for the outage. They’re claiming most of the area will have it back tomorrow by 11pm, but all the outages near me still show “awaiting dispatch.” Seems pretty wild to me that cold weather and wind is enough to cause four day long outages. They usually get them fixed in a day or two.

Edit: apparently mine actually came back on last night, but they never notified anyone and their outage tracker hasn’t been updated either lol.

Ours was off for three hours on the 23rd, that was about it. I hope yours comes back on soon.

I'm looking at the outage map and lots of outages in Eastern Berks. We didn't even get any snow, just lots of cold wind.

Yeah, eastern Berks had ice along with the winds and that seems to be the issue.

They don’t have enough crews most likely.

We've had a couple brownouts. The power doesn't go out but dips enough to kick the generator into action for a minute or two. Too early in the winter for this horseshit weather

With a proper generator setup you’re happy when the power goes out. How big was you smile ?

Well not exactly happy when the power goes out. The generator is a 16,000 kwh whole-house, runs on propane. We have two 100 gallon tanks so we're good for a couple days continuous use. Longest the power's been out here has been 11 hours; of course it was before we had the generator and was in the dead of winter because that's just the natural order of things. Biggest inconvenience is the internet being down - we're very rural and the LTE is not incredibly strong out here.

What’s the typical winter outage season?

Late January to mid-February. By the end of February you don't care anymore because by March it's getting warmer so the big snows are gone quickly. December though is way too early for big freezes.

Just drove through rural parts of the state for the holiday.

Lots of downed trees and saw a few leaning on wires.

Definitely an issue. And I think it is worse since it was the first real cold storm of the year coupled with the wind that did such damage.

Friend of mine got power back at 11pm last night. My powers flicked on and off like 12 times. Never off for more than a minute or so. I’ve never seen it go on and off so many times before

I guess mine came on last night as well around the same time. We have a generator and have been using that, but met Ed never informed us it was back and they didn’t update their outage tracker lol. Our neighbor who doesn’t have one came over and was like “you know the power’s back?”

Worst than a power outage…. I’ve got an internet outage! 😡

we use a T-Mobile hotspot, and that was out until last night. The tower lost power as well lol.

No power issues in my area or my parent's (or at least, nothing at my house that I can tell remotely).

Had a fun issue where my thermostat sent me a notification that my heat went out, but lucky for me power cycling the heat system a few times from my phone fixed it without me having to drive back.

Had no power for nearly 20 hours between the 23rd and 24th.

I bought a generator yesterday morning and only got about 3 hours of use out of it. Lol

Oh well. I've got it just in case of another outage. I know I can go a few days easy during the summer with no power but in these temperatures it's dangerous.

Surprisingly just a few brown outs. Usually out a lot this time

We lost it from 22:25-23:25 Fri night. Was pleasantly surprised it came back on, original PPL estimate was 15:00 Sat.

Do you have a smartphone?

Wuz314159 t1_j1mu2je wrote

That relies on wifi which goes out in a power failure.

Bro smartphones still work without wifi. It's called data

Nope. I don't have mobile data.

By all means shit on me for being poor. Laugh at me for being stuck in Reading. Maybe come over and shoot my dog?

Not at all. There are low cost data options out there. I didn’t have internet at my house for the first year and a half, just used my phone. Would that be an option? Ditching the cable internet (I’d guess Comcast in Reading - I’m just a couple miles outside of the actual city and I’m stuck with them) might be something to consider if you haven’t already.

I would also never hurt a dog much less shoot one. I’m sorry you are in a bad spot now and I hope it does get better for you. I know Cartech is hiring pretty much constantly and the pay is good. Might be worth a look if you need a leg up financially. I apologize for coming off harsh, it was not my intent. I wish you a Merry Christmas and hope things start looking up for you.

I pay Verizon $124 a month for 3.0mbps DSL.
I can't afford heat. Right now, I can't even afford phone service. (Only person I can call is 911)
It takes 20 hours to get to work outside of Reading, so I only work in Reading.
Life is shit and will be over soon as I'm about to be homeless due to Covid.
