I work in Fall River and we recently had this Neo Nazi demonstration at the public library during a Drag Queen Reading Hour for kids (seen in the picture of the article).

Not only were they yelling about drag queens, the LGBTQ+ community and trans people, but they also started insulting a person wearing a yarmulke.

All of this while wearing masks, because they’re just so brave.

Really glad we can finally be honest about masks again that they're super sketch and allow people to do things anonymously that they wouldn't do if they had to publicly share their identities. That's a problematic take. On the one hand you're right queer people need more ways to defend themselves. But the pro/con is far more nuanced than telling us to buy guns.

  • Queer people are far more likely to use a gun against themselves than a Proud Boy. The reality is mental illness hits marganized communities hard and people with mental illness are far more likely to die by suicide if they have easy access to firearms.

  • This isn't the southwest. We don't have Stand Your Ground, we have a duty to retreat before using deadly force. Groups like the Proud Boys know that and are pretty careful with their intimidation tactics to avoid creating situations where the duty to retreat cannot be satisfied. If you use your gun against a Proud Boy you're probably the one who will end up in jail.

  • Many of the places where queer folks need protection the most are places you can't bring guns and for good reason. Gay bars and clubs? It's against the law to carry while drinking, which is what goes on in clubs ans bars.

Nobody wants to be forced to use a gun unfortunately it is a reality for a lot of people. I’d encourage you to look into defensive firearm usage. Also look into how many rounds are used in most defensive uses and come back

Look i moved away 14 years ago and I found out I'm allergic to what and dairy. Shit kills me whenever I eat it. But every time I go back, I get Western or George's in (ugh) burrillville. I also am a serious Leo's in Gansett fan. And I really, really hate to admit it, but I miss Papa Gino's. Lastly, I live for cold pizza strips.

Western Hotel pizza, though, I'm not joking, it's my favorite pizza in the world and I've eaten some DAMN good pizza all over the country and in Europe. Their sausage pizza is extremely special.

So it was twisting context. It's called that unofficially by the group putting it on. Imagine a group wanting to show kids that they're humans too deserving of respect even if they live a life different than the kids and their families.

If a man wearing a dress reading Green Eggs and Ham to kids is what you find dangerous (and not the cosplaying gravy seals using firearms to intimidate people) then you're really just telling on yourself.
