Dr. Susanne Saslaw at the Wickford Veterinary Clinic in N Kingston. I live in Providence but she's well worth the drive.

My adult rescue dog came to me with disastrous teeth and eventually had to have all removed, a few at a time 😣 ... the last surgery was an exceptionally tricky one to close a fissure going through to his sinus cavity 😱 -- she managed to get it done and my dog had such an improved quality of life afterwards.

BTW Same dog had a freak accident in which he dislocated his hip 😱😱 and she managed to get it back in place without needing to resort to orthopedic surgery.

This just happened to me! I go to West Shore Animal Clinic. It DID cost and arm and a leg tho. The tooth extraction itself was only $110. Everything else like the cleaning, X-rays, anesthesia and everything else totaled up to a whopping $1050.

We had to wait some time for the appt (not sure if there is still a wait). His breath started getting stinky so they put him on an antibiotic while we waited. He did end up having an infection at the root, but we got the tooth out before it became a problem.

I have to recommend getting pet insurance in the future. It does go up as the dog ages but it has been worth it. (It doesn’t exist for preexisting conditions so if you’ve seen a vet over this is won’t be covered). But of the $1050 this trip cost, we were reimbursed $725 of it.

My senior dog had some teeth extracted by her regular vet at East Bay Animal Hospital. We’ve been happy with all services they’ve provided to us. I have the cost estimate on hand if you’re interested in seeing what it can total to!

West shore animal clinic charges double for everything. Do some price shopping before having anything done there. They also like to do a lot of unnecessary care.

I’ve worked at two animal hospitals in the state, Northern Rhode Island Animal Hospital in North Smithfield and Rhode Island Animal Medical Center in Warwick. Both of them of have in-house dental care. If price is an issue both can recommend credit/payment options. Don’t be afraid to have a very frank discussion with the technician about money; they’ve heard it all and want to help you help the pup. I’d also recommend pet insurance. It can be had through most auto insurance companies and definitely helps. Good luck to you and the pup.

My dog also chipped a tooth while chewing and I took him to Rhode Island Animal Medical Center, he did fine and they were more reasonably priced plus had better availability than other places I checked.

Interesting you say that as I have had a very different experience. They have been very honest with me, no surprise billing, no excessive appointments, visits, or medications - we have seen them for years now. We even moved to the top of Rhode Island and happily make the commute down.

I did not shop around because I really love and trust Dr. Young with my pets. Her recommendation absolutely means a lot to me. I cannot speak on price bc I would have paid more for peace of mind.

None of the charges were a surprise, none of the procedures were unnecessary. If you, as an adult go to get a tooth pulled, they have the same procedures.

I agree!! Canibringmydog! They’ve never made me feel pressured, they support me in my decisions, and they’ve made my dog feel safe and loved! They also took us in at the start of the pandemic when I needed to leave the worst vet place in the state Titan!!

Right?! They have been so accommodating too, like being available for same day appointments (if you call early enough, naturally). I’m glad you have a vet you trust as well! It’s like having a good mechanic but for the most important being under our roof 😂

Years ago when I got my cat, my brother-in-law let him out of our house and when I finally got my cat back inside, I noticed his right fang looked chipped. Upon closer examination, I could see pink, which I knew the nerve was exposed. I took him to my vet and they charged me about $400 for x-rays/exam and recommended extraction.

The only issue with that is that in cats, the fang is such a large tooth that removing it would weaken the facial bones and also cause his lip to recede in which would end up getting ulcers from his lower teeth leading to more issues and possible teeth extractions. Considering the biggest costs is from the anesthesia, going with a root canal over an extraction wouldn't cost much more, and possibly even cheaper in the long run. At the time there were no veterinarian dentists in RI and only 3 in MA, all who were booked until the next year.

Big issue for me at the time was it was October and I was about to go on a 10 day trip to Chicago in two days and I couldn't let my cat go that long without it getting taken care of. Eventually we called Salem Valley Vet Clinic in Salem CT. We explained the situation and Dr. Bob Baratt (while many Vets can do teeth extractions, this guy is an actual Dentist for animals) told us to come first thing in the morning at 7:30am. He told us the tooth could be capped and asked when would we like to schedule it. We asked if the same day was possible. He managed to fit us in. We drove to Mystic Village for lunch and by the time we were done eating, they called us and my little Stanley was all set. All in all, it cost us about $1,500.

Aside from that little story, where ever you end up going, see if they take CareCredit. It let us spread out our payments overtime and I don't think they charge any interest for the first year. Who knows, maybe your pup might not need the tooth extracted either.

That'd be great, if you don't mind sharing. My pupper recently turned 11 and this is her first major medical expense so just having a rough idea for evaluating providers would be a huge help.

The $1500 is also including what I spent at the previous vet as well.

Eastside Vet Clinic in Providence took care of my pupper's teeth issues. Bill came to roughly $1,200 or so if I remember a lot - which included extraction, anathesia, etc. Didn't really seem to be bothering her but her breath was beyond foul and the issue was getting worse. No issues since and her breath is now merely the normal doggy bad breath.
