The shop that failed you is required to re-inspect for no additional charge for up to 30 days.

This is so you can have the issues fixed and bring it back to them to finish the inspection.

I do not believe there is any reason you can't bring it to another shop, but I'm pretty sure everything the 1st shop failed you for has already been entered into the computer system.

Best to go to the place you trust the first time.

My new (to me) 4Runner failed its first inspection (despite passing in CT, where I bought it.) They failed me on a small tear in my left lower control arm boot, rust on my rear center brake lines, and tinted windows.

I replaced the control arm and the brake lines (nothing wrong with them, just surface rust) and I removed the tint from the front windows. I took it back to the same shop and passed within 5 minutes.

CT doesn’t have a safety inspection; only emissions testing.

Interesting. The dealer provided me with a very official "State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles Vehicle Inspection form", so I assumed that it had passed a state inspection.

I guess if it is just self-reported they can get away with being less stringent than the inspectors in RI.

You will probably be out the $50 but I know people who have done this. What did they fail it on?

RI law is 70% on all windows which is basically factory defaults for all cars. They are starting to enforce it more.

Maybe they enforce it during inspection if you don't "know a guy " but I see multiple limo tint cars with RI plates daily.

Limos are exempt as are buses and several other types of vehicles.

I didn't think I needed to explain limo tint, but I'm not young, so you younger people might call it something else. In the 80s and 90s "limo tint" meant very dark tint on your car, like they have on limousines 5% or less light. Not that you were talking about actual limousines.

Na bruh, we just take the tint off before inspection. Get the inspection sticker and put the tint back on same day. Can't let em hoes see you ridn dirty on God fam

Oh that’s ridiculous. Just take it somewhere else. I would also ask the next place in advance because they would let you know about a tint issue beforehand .
