some stories would totally have a flashback to like 2 or 3 years ago, or even just before the start of the story. There's not a law that says flashbacks have to be at least 20 years in the past

True, but I’m referring to the movie “senior year” which was definitely trying to make it seem like 2002 was the olden days 😂
