This article fails to deliver much useful information. I want to know when human trials will begin, how many are in the trial, what is the mechanism by which they help? Do they destroy cells, if so, how? It reads more like a wishlist than a description of an actual item which must have gone through at least animal trials to get to the point of human trials.

Hopefully we'll see more reporting about this in the near future. I, like you, want some solid details.

This is not the website you go even for quality tech articles, not to mention medical ones.

solidshakego t1_ixivzm4 wrote

If i recall this isn't "new tech" or anything. Has been studied and used for a while I think on lab rats and stuff. A bit hazey but I do remember reading about it a long time ago.

wandering-monster t1_ixjnj3d wrote

That's generally going to be the case for anything entering human trials. You don't put brand new tech into people.

Eg. The mRNA tech used for the COVID vaccine was first discovered in like the 80s and got into serious development in the early 2000s as a cancer treatment.

It just happened to be ready to go, a good fit for the problem, and extremely successful in its early human trials for cancer. So we kinda quickly adopted it into a viral vaccine instead of a cancer vaccine.

Science ensures there is no post truth. If something rejects reality it isn't science.

This may be the beginning of really targeted chemo that came focus on the cancer and not cause damage to the rest of the body

That's actually the mRNA vaccines. Look into the recent trials piloting those on breast cancer.

But I'd love a pareille research pathway!

_BlueFire_ t1_ixjifl6 wrote

Yeah, basically during the last 10ish years we've managed to better understand, study and make both specific antibodies and delivery means. Kay principles of this field and both pretty much unknown before 2000's

Edit.

Of course we knew about antibodies, but there have been terrific advancement in molecular biology and everything related to it, so now they can be designed and closely studied

I wonder if I will see the day when headlines say: Humanity beat cancer.

22

kitty_honey t1_ixltx83 wrote

It will happed, but not like this. I do not expect one super-cure, it is more like thousands smaller battles in one big war against cancer. We have already beaten few types of cancer, survival rates going to 95%+ or even higher, but it is slow hard fight.

I do too as I have a high chance for cancer due to genetics...

Conspiracy Theorists are going to have a field day with this headline. It's a shame because anything we can do to fight cancer should be something we all want.

Apologies for the negative take to such positive news. A lot of my family are into these theories, so this is the first place my mind goes.

I feel you. Whenever something good happens that my family/nutjobs in general would get mad about, I just think "Oh great, now they're gonna latch onto this, too." It almost makes me dread progress just because I don't want to have to hear about it from them.

At the end of the day, reality remains reality, no matter what any of us thinks. If the reality and fact is that this is a good thing, it remains a good thing no matter what anyone thinks (thankfully).

Yes Micro! I only made it about halfway through but it was fine and definitely had that Michael Crichton flavor. Nothing ever hit like that first reading of Jurassic Park in the early 90s though.

I'm confused by this author... is it normal to have this on your website?

>I prefer pitches via email around midday (between 11am and 2pm). I sometimes respond if I'm not going to cover the story you pitch me. If emailing, my ideal email length is 2–3 sentences and limited follow-up emails are ok. I occasionally check newswires for new story ideas.

it kind of sounds like he writes fluff pieces for people on demand. Though I am 100% in the ready to be proven wrong about this and told how it this is a perfectly normal freelance thing to do. I will update this post accordingly.

This was a time when most classrooms didn’t have computers yet the Internet wasn’t a big thing and my students were like in awe . They did not believe him but he said we are working on them now and they will be here in the future kind of crazy to see it happen
