What makes it great is that despite some groups efforts to block book reading, there are still so many more people getting into reading. Especially at a young age. It's heartwarming.
Are there really any groups trying to stop people from reading books?
Could you show me some evidence of that please.
Many governors (mostly in Republican led states) have increased their pace to ban certain books.
This site gives a basic rundown of what to look for and the understanding of the laws surrounding the bans.

Why is a private citizen doing the work of the public schools and of county and state orgs to increase reading among children, in the states? Why are elementary ed libraries and reading programs lacking staffing or funding? That’s a choice.
Dolly Parton’s private philanthropy is wonderful—but why aren’t leaders and educators using taxpayer funding for this, vs paying millions for high football stadiums and locker rooms or for school police forces/guns for troopers drives, vs educational/classroom and teacher funding?
Everything is a choice and everything is political, when it comes to taxes, budgets/funding and education.

that’s technically correct but not practically correct. These governors, pundits, propagandists, etc. have whipped people into such a frenzy, that specific US localities have entirely defunded specific libraries beyond operation to limit access to “certain” materials by limiting access to ALL materials. Technically speaking, a false equivalency; practically speaking, not at all.
Downvotes without refutation are Redditspeak for “tell me I’m right, without telling me I’m right”, lol. Sounds like someone got called out on a bad faith argument and knows it.
That might be true in a reasonable society but Yankia is hardly reasonable. As we see in their abortion rights “debate”, they focus on particular cases until they have the momentum then ban everything. Like the 10yo girl in Ohio, in any reasonable country she would have got a life saving medical intervention, but the ban that supposedly targeted the “women who do it because children are annoying” types was broad enough to included her.
TLDR: they talk about some books, but they want to ban (almost) all books

My one year old is in the program. We love it. Such a generous thing!
My daughter was in the program a decade ago. She loved getting and reading all the books and now that she's a teenager she's passing them to her little cousins so they can have the same joy of reading.
God what a wonderful thing. Dolly Parton is such a phenomenal person.

That's individual school districts, while this is the government of Ohio sending books to people. Yes, book bans are horrible, but the government sending children common books written for their age is completely fine and even beneficial.
For me, it would be uplifting news if it was inclusive of everyone

We are on our second child receiving these books now. Most of them are very good.
We got that book! Our last was called Snow, and it was a fun little book. If anyone else got it, there's the scarf, the cardinal, and the dog in every single picture somewhere, even my 7 year old had fun looking for them lol
Dolly is the most sincere and loving person I've heard of. I don't know her or have ever met her, but I know ppl who went to high school with her and everybody always has good things to say. She has helped her home area so much. Everything she does is done with class. She's truly a blessing to NE TN and the country.
We have something similar in the school district where the town I work in is located.

Completely unrelated side note, as a mail carrier who works in said district, I think all of these books should be soft cover.... and fit inside a standard sized mail box...
Ours were all soft cover, and our mail carrier would bend them and stuff them in the box.
I think that's Great 👍 sending free books in the mail to school kids: they get to unwrap a package! and then get to read the book! It's genius 🤣
My little one gets a book every month! And we read them! So much fun! Some of her favorite books are from Imagination Library <3

We loved this program. We were so sad when the kids aged out. We have some wonderful books, thanks to Dolly.
We have something similar in my town. It's called a free library.

Okay fine. But native Ohioan here. Let’s not suck Mike DeWine’s dick too quick—he is currently supporting the complete destruction/reconstruction of the Ohio Board of Education to bring it into his office and completely control the education system in this state. Um no?
