Man that's a shame...those bland-ass contemporary buildings strip all the character away.

The buildings it replaced were no loss. Liquor store and bars in a run down, 90 year old building.

While true, couldn't they have replaced them with something more pleasing to the eye?

Don’t worry, Spokane has lots of other similar buildings still. A really great example is the Davenport Hotel, about a block away from this bus station.

Not so fun fact about the bus station: it was supposed to be a commerce center as well as a bus station. It’s set up like a fancy mini mall inside. Unfortunately, that never really worked out. Most of the shops are empty now for a variety of reasons, and most people avoid the bus station because it has turned into kind of a de facto homeless shelter. The city is currently working on redesigning their transit system to instead have bus stop platforms throughout downtown and de-emphasize the station as a hub of the transit system.

The stuff I see going up in Austin now is even worse.

Spokane has changed so much even in the last 10 years though I would argue in the summer the same vehicles in the picture are still there.
