Maple Valley, a 45-60 minute commute to Seattle, also you have the Tahoma School system which is a very good one.

Issaquah, Sammamish & Kirkland are nice if you can afford it too, but MV and Tahoma School District seems to be the hot spot. Amazon and Microsoft have just moved into town too...

To be honest, any of the surrounding suburbs but I recently moved out to the Kitsap Peninsula and I absolutely love it. I live in a quiet neighborhood, close to a grocery store but there’s also still some farm land out here. Access to the Puget Sound EVERYWHERE. Very green.

Roslyn or Cle Elum. Hands down

Roslyn is my favorite 🥰. My partner and I met there for our first date because he lived in the Redmond area and I lived in Ellensburg

Sounds to me like you are looking to move to the east side of Wa. Nice tranquil life out there for folk.

Not sure why youre getting down voted. I lived in Wenatchee from the age of 4-13. Moved over to Duvall/Redmond after that, I remember Wenatchee being much more family oriented. Especially these days, the west side of the state more and more belongs to DINKs and people that want to make careers the center of their life.

There a several bedroom communities in commute distance to Seattle. Every compass point has something to offer from a ferry commute to recreation and mountain access. Do your site visit, rent a car, and go explore.

Woodinville or the San Juan Islands (I’ve lived in both).

From a schools perspective - Bellevue, lake Washington and Northshore are good districts. But they can be very expensive places to live.

Anywhere, this is a dumb question. But if you really want to know, stay away from spanaway. No one ever said.. Oh theres a nice place.

I have clients that LOVE Dupont. I really enjoy Lacey and I'm right off the freeway.

DuPont is great. It almost has a sleepy collage vibe. Lacey is getting so bad though.

I love my little cul- de- sac, and the deaf community in Lacey is awesome, but I so work in South Tacoma so a lot of places look much safer than 56th

Sultan, Gold Bar, and Monroe are pretty safe small towns with slightly more reasonable real estate prices, but the first two are still in the process of gentrifying. All are easy to get to Bellevue/Redmond from, but if you work in Seattle proper it’s kind of a trek. I have no idea what the schools are like.

Pretty much anywhere in Washington is safe from violence if you're not in relationships with people prone to domestic violence, involved in criminal gang activity, or involved with illegal drugs. If visible homeless people or the potential for property crime are upsetting to you perhaps avoid urban areas but you're going to miss out on urban amenities.

Having recently moved to Oregon (Portland region) I'm getting the impression that Washington generally has more functional local/state government and better public schools.

Pay attention to what communities are directly connected to Seattle via the ferry system, Amtrak Cascades, and Soun Transit's rail and bus service.

I’ve been looking into Lacey. Seems like you get a lot more house for your money, compared to other places.

I guy was murdered in the Winco parking lot and I had a creeper follow me out of there as well. The Lacey Ulta was robbed 3x this week. Lacey gets worse and worse every week. It was nice 5 years ago.

Hmmm, guess I don’t really explore too much outside of suburbia. Residential areas at least feel really safe to me. But this is also coming from someone who’s lived/worked in Aberdeen.

TheBewitchingWitch t1_irany4s wrote

A lot of people felt that way about Yelm, but the property and mail theft are out of control. The local police can’t even handle it. They are not even responding to car thefts.

1

Lyradep t1_iraoj7c wrote

Hmm, yeah Yelm doesn’t seem that great of a place to be in. In regards to Lacey, maybe it just depends how deep you are in the suburbs. I’ve accidentally left my garage door open overnight a couple of times, with a bunch of shoes on shelves there, but didn’t have anything missing the next mornings. I feel pretty confident with packages being left out on my front steps, but I can see some places in Lacey, where you probably wouldn’t feel so confident.

Don’t sleep on Portland, you’re about 3 hours from Seattle there and it’s a much smaller city if you’re into that. The news will tell you that it’s scary there, it’s not. The surrounding suburbs are awesome with great outdoors activities and considerably cheaper than Seattle.

By all means, Seattle is a great place. But if you’re shooting for 3 hours away, you’ve got a whole nother city you can consider.

hoehater t1_ira7f15 wrote

Portland is fucked… homeless junkies are even more brazen and prevalent than in Seattle.

Newberg is pretty nice though.

CappinPeanut t1_ira7tod wrote

I’m not really suggesting raising a family downtown Portland, the idea was the surrounding suburbs. I also wouldn’t suggest raising a family in downtown Seattle, but OP is clearly talking about surrounding suburbs when he’s talking about the metro area.

Edit: Bonus, if you live in Vancouver, you can take advantage of no income tax and then pop into Oregon to take advantage of no sales tax. Plus you miss the Portland traffic on your monthly drive to Seattle.

oldirishfart t1_irahbc8 wrote

From the school perspective Camas is the place to be down that far south. But that’s a hellish commute to Seattle…

hoehater t1_ira9e87 wrote

Yeah, I have family there, they seem to enjoy it.
