We are made of smaller parts
And their parts smaller still
And once the bonds between them break
The grave begins to chill.
But in between these lesser motes
Our energy has passed
Connections forged in life's duration
Surely have amassed
Some grand emergent way of living on
Made up of sums unknown
Fear not that you will go beyond,
You never were alone.
And maybe peace will come to you
As endless dreams of flight
Through all time turning on its end
Admits to mortal sight.
Perhaps you'll join a dixie band
To walk across a star
And when the saints go marching in
I'll meet you at the bar.
