It's a game with dice, and generally there's LOTS of stuff that "breaks immersion." Do you... do you not look at your character sheet?
I honestly don't get your point.
[edit: I'm wondering if you think D&D should be a non-stop hours-long improv session? Or maybe some rank amateur drama performance? That's not D&D at most tables, but feel free to enjoy yourself however you want. It's a game played with paper, dice, and books, not costumes, accents, and props.]
