East Pratt road condition?

Anyone have any idea why east pratt between s Broadway and Washington is in such shite condition? Any plans to fix it? I feel like i need an offroad vehicle to drive it.

BGE is redoing the natural gas lines in the neighborhood. They should re-pave the road at the completion of the work.

But I doubt if they have an expected date. BDOT may have a date, BGE may, possible the council person. Real answer is they'll do it when they do it, if they do it at all.

Road repaving in this city is a crime, the city permitting office needs to enforce.

EDIT: BGE identified a corroded gas main in the summer

The roads are still shit even after they repave them. On top of that they only repave half of the road and all of the markings are coming off within 3 months. This city has no oversight on any contractors working for them.

It's real BS from the city permit office. In other countries in MD and in DC, if you want to build a conduit/gas line/water line, the permit office requires that the contractor needs to include repaving the road curb to curb, curb repair, sidewalk repair/improvements, road striping.

It's a good way for municipalities to get road improvements without having to pay for them out of pocket, it just becomes the cost of construction.

I do not see Baltimore enforcing this anywhere in the city. And if they did, we'd have a nicer place to live in.

The city doesn't require the contractor to backfill their trenches with graded aggregate, instead, they fill them with what was removed. The moisture content of that is too high and it will never compact properly, so in a year or two after the resurfacing you'll end up with a rut where the trench was.

There is no reason for a temporary patch to be that shitty. It literally looks like a child who's only experience is tonka toys made it. No other jurisdiction would ever let that stand, particularly coming into winter months.

Here's an example of a patch that the inspector makes the contractor fix in PG County (the excavator operator broke some pavement outside of the cut near the flagger is in the photo)

In my experience working with Baltimore City DPW/DOT employees, the culture is 'avoid work at all costs'. If a contractor or utility company pushes back on something in the slightest, the city will always keep their head down and allow it.

how long has it been going on? further up on the road they still have the bumpy patches that were never smoothed out. I'm hoping it doesn't turn into that again

They've. Gotten. Worse. I have every bump and pothole mapped in my mind downtown and surrounding. Its stressful enough dealing with incompetent drivers.

Oh just give it another year til infrastructure crews are done upgrading the pipes and what not. They'll lay down some more weak asphalt so we can have wavy bus lanes there soon.

Sheeeiiittt. Come over to W Pratt. They replaced lines a few years and still haven’t resurfaced and probably never will. Priority will go to the wealthier neighborhoods.

311 it and forward the 311 # to your councilperson. Your councilperson’s job is to be your champion. If you aren’t getting the same resources from the city as wealthy areas, then either your councilperson isn’t being held to task or your councilperson needs to be fired (voted out of office.)

Been doing it for 7 months now. Luckily I’ve gotten emails back from Bullocks office and I’ve been emailing them every two weeks to make sure it doesn’t fall off their radar.
