That doesn’t mean that literacy isn’t incredibly important, it just means that reading for enjoyment is not necessary. If you don’t like reading a novel, then don’t. There is enough other stuff to be read.

It really depends on what you’re reading here. Reading VC Andrews all day doesn’t make anyone an intellectual, although it can be entertaining.

I just think the idea that reading is intellectual and not entertainment is harmful to literacy.
