Hey all! I’m considering moving to Hyde Park, specifically by Clare Ave. I was wondering if anyone had experience living in the area that could tell me more about it? Thank you!

Hyde Park is very residential. And pretty safe.

Easy access to the center of city, looks like that neighborhood is also very close to Roslindale, walkable to Forest Hills. That stretch of Hyde park Ave doesn’t really have anything to do, I think there are a couple takeout restaurants and liquor stores, but also a lot of auto body shops and nail salons.

I think the biggest issue for anyone moving to Boston is the severe EMS shortage..

That part is all about convenience to the Orange Line. You are close to the Arboretum. Close to JP center with a short ride. More urban. If you want more trees/quiet look at the Fairmount Hill area. HP does have some higher crime parts but not so much that area.

I lived on Sunnyside street several years ago and loved it. Close knit neighbors who keep an eye out. Personally I wouldn't choose that specific location in Hyde park on Clare Ave. The vibe in that area is not the same as I just described plus you're right near the main road Hyde park Ave, which isnt ideal w the dirtbikes and traffic. Not really a place you'd go for a walk around on a nice day. But where I used to live was by the park and was super nice to live near. So Hyde park has different vibes in different places, it's not homogeneous.

What are you asking? Is it safe? Sort of. Is it old? Yes. Is it dangerous? I’ve encountered great people there and A holes!! Also have a problem with hoods on illegal motorcycles. Cops do NOTHING! So you decide…. It’s probably as safe as most cities around Boston. Probably waaaay more unsafe than most towns in Massachusetts.

I once saw a dog walking off leash down Clare, with some 20-something twenty or thirty feet behind, attempting to discreetly jog/stalk the dog. The dog clearly wanted nothing to do with him, and yeah, I gotta admit, I was getting Dahmer vibes off the guy, but I didn't stop to help the dog or anything. I still think about that day. I'm not sure I did the right thing.

Sounds about right for one of the NIMBYist parts of Boston.
