I think it’s worth mentioning the realtor initially said it was $3800 and then changed it to $5720. Bait n switch. Wtf. I can’t lose this apartment. What do I do.

Is this including your first and last months rent and/or security deposit? It seems insane that a $1900 a month apartment would have a $5720 broker fee alone.

But yes, typically for securing an apartment in Boston you need three months rent minimum as well as a decent financial background.

Man, if someone asked for a fee that was 3 months rent, I’d promptly tell them to suck my dick.

Yes I should’ve specified that but it is not JUST the brokers fee, but in my eyes that’s just an additional fuck ton of money that I have to pay

Yeah then that is unfortunately typical for apartments around here. I do not agree that it is right or even feasible for most.

$5720 as your brokers fee - that is a MISTAKE.

Is $5720 the broker fee or the total up front costs to move in? For a $1900/mo apartment I would assume it's the latter. Most apartments will cost 3-4 month's rent up front to move in (1 mo each for first month's rent, last month's rent, security deposit, and broker's fee). $5700 would equal 3 month's rent for this apartment, leaving the $20 for something else (new locks, application fee, etc.).

I just want to reiterate my point in this post is can I ask for an extension without repercussions?

You can ask for whatever you want, but if you can't pay the up front costs right away then the landlord might think twice about renting to you

If you're already signed then you should be okay to ask for an extension. If you haven't signed yet it's gonna be a red flag for them

A red flag that I can’t pay $5720 in a month??? If i could do that I wouldn’t be looking for an apartment for 1900

I'd suggest calming down a bit. People are just trying to be helpful.
