They didn't offer the public the option of an ordinary bronze statue of MLK standing atop a granite pedestal (like the famous George Washington statue). If they had, it would've won over this reductionist crap.

I guess the Poe bronze is the most recently one I can think of but I think the trend has been to more abstract
