Can you explain more about the lesson that you learned

Spent my whole life trying to go for a single career path and wanted to get by on my own merit. I slowly learned that companies don't care about that and only want assurance when hiring a person. So I networked with people and found a new career path that I was unaware of and got a referral from a future colleague I met at a tech meetup.

Companies only want assurance meaning that you will do what they hired you to do?

And that you learn new things well and are a good human being to work with, which is frankly top when hiring on my team.

Yea hiring is like hedging your bet on someone. You can have the smartest person alive join your team but if they cant work well with others then it's a bad fit. Imo dev require less soft skills and a lot more tech skill. Something I wasn't cut out for.
