I'm trying to understand your life. You spent ~90 days away from home but only a few away from your family... you must have had a lot of family vacations?

Also over a hundred days of crying last year... man that seems like a lot, you okay?

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwdity4 wrote

My daughter was just born and we spent some time at in-laws house to help. Not all the crying was sad. Thanks for looking out though :)

Also, married with kid(s) and two roommates?

Same house different unit. Housemates would be more accurate

Neat data. I hope next update you can exercise more than you cry.

That's... a lot of alcohol, even at 1 drink/day.

It’s something I’m working on. But yes, it is

OP at restaurant foods a lot, considering how few great meals they had.

I wonder if those meals were mostly home-cooked or at restaurants.

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwdmqga wrote

I eat out too much. And the “great meal” for me needs to be really special / memorable. And it’s never one I cook myself haha

Source: my life

Tools: Google Sheets + a tool I built to text me daily asking me a series of "diary" type questions and then records the answer to sheets

Goals at the top are negative goals to the left in red (want to drink less and eat less restaurant food) and positive in the middle in green (more exercise, devotionals and fasting). The rest I like to track just out of curiosity.

Not quite hitting my goals this year as it's been a tough one. (the Quality of Life pie chart is skewed by my typical optimism).

The bottom right chart is some data from my tracking of who I spend time with. These are the top 10 people and you can see a little context for who they are in relation to me.

HothHanSolo t1_iwd7e7l wrote

What do the percentages represent? Like, did you exercise on 32% of all days?

3

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwdix8w wrote

Yes, I figured that was more relevant than saying I’ve worked out 100 whatever days so far this year

2

HothHanSolo t1_iwdjc0e wrote

Usually you want to abstract big numbers, as you've done here. But using a percentage kind of blurs the understanding. For example, did you eat restaurant food for 63% of your meals or on 63% of days?

Because the time frame is known and familiar to people, I'd probably have gone with days.

3

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwdmuu1 wrote

Totally get that. Yeah its days. I just track how many days I do or don’t do something.

4

Naive-Kangaroo3031 t1_iwelm7i wrote

Might I suggest breaking down your goals into smaller time frames?
Ex: I'll work out this Monday and Wednesday at 6.

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwezeh2 wrote

Yeah, the goal was M/W/F plus one weekend day. I’m still doing some exercises at home but for this tracking I only count it if I did a full workout or played a sport

Why do you have room mates when you have a wife and children. Are they lodgers in your family home?

Hi, any chance you would share the google spreadsheet with some sample data instead of your private data? Im interested in trying this for a year.

4

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwdvx0b wrote

sure, let me templatize it then I'll share it over

masnitsya t1_iwe0s8i wrote

Can I get in on this pls?

3

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iweiwem wrote

Sure thing. Here it is. Got 2 lines of data just to help see how it works. Not the cleanest thing I've made since it was initially just personal. But I hope it helps you https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-5Z5CVkgcnC8uN7V3DWCIiEgT1NPdx3U9vVfhYWj1-4/copy

I also sent a request for access

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwgxahz wrote

If you click that link it should allow you to copy it to your google account. Let me know if that doesn't work.

2

Sangazs t1_iwgbjri wrote

Do you mind me asking what tool did you use to prompt you about questions throughout the day? I was thinking about using google forms, but im sure that unless I get reminded to put in data I will not be able to keep myself accountable putting it in everyday.

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwgxdib wrote

It's something I custom built myself to text me every day. There are costs involved so I can't really share it for free.

1

Sangazs t1_iwh7d7e wrote

Oh I see, no worries, thanks for the honesty, and the spreadsheet of course!

2

Username_RHSC t1_iwet2ze wrote

I find it interesting that you ate restaurant food 63%, but only had a good meal 9%....I might be reading into this too much, but it seems that we agree that the quality of a meal out has fallen drastically.

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwezhgz wrote

But yeah, restaurants have taken a serious hit

1

teezepls t1_iwew05a wrote

How do you stay consistent with tracking the data? I’ve been struggling hard to stay consistent with something as simple as journaling

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwez12u wrote

I built a bot that texts me and asks me about these things daily. Reminds me two more times if I don’t answer the first time (1 and 2hours after asked). Then logs the answers to a spreadsheet. I am a zero inbox type guy so I feel compelled to respond to texts - even if I know it’s my own bot

This seems like a better app than most of the top rated apps on playstore.

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwgxj68 wrote

Would folks pay for this?

1

ChunkyPa t1_iwkd1hi wrote

I would. And I would love the app to be minimalistic and do just this functionality.

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwm0mcl wrote

Yeah, my imagining would be the app is purely a place to setup your phone number and at any time change the questions being asked. Plus your reports that you could time box. All the app would do apart from that is text you and log responses.

I just don't know how to market an app

1

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwm2o9s wrote

Actually, I think I'd rather it just be a simple mobile friendly website so part of the appeal is that it's not another app

How do you spend 95% of your irme with your wife but 69% with your roommate?

2

HoldMyDirrk OP t1_iwiacci wrote

First of all, nice Second, a lot of time away from home with wife and baby this year Third, roommate sometimes travels away or there are even days I don't see them despite living in the same building

Also, roommates should better be called housemates - same house different unit
