There's something hilariously ironic about that beautiful, painstakingly prepared lobster next to box Mac and cheese.

Looks delicious tho!

With Kraft mac and cheese from the box? Sorry- that's a hard no for me.

A lot of seafood did. Oysters were cheap, and the rich wouldn't consider eating them. Same with eels.

As soon as something becomes more expensive, it is a delicacy that the upper classes want to have.

White bread was another example, since it required extra processing. For much of their history, the poor had a better balanced diet than the rich. Even when a food is relatively cheap to produce, crazes like "superfoods" will drive the price up. Quiona is a good example. Its a cheap staple for many in south America. But the price has exploded in recent years. Certainly good for farmers and those associated with the industry, but not great for those at the bottom of society

A timeless, classic pairing.

The more I eat lobster, either in a restaurant or at home , the more I realize I just like crab more. More tender and sweeter. Idk. Maybe I need to try a lobster roll or some claws.

It is and I will die on that hill! Individually they both seem fine. But side by side there is a huge difference in cheesiness, creaminess, and noodle texture. Kraft comes off downright watery next to GV.

I think you should name this dish "Classy and Trashy"

Take my upvote you blasphemous fiend.

Has it gotten better again? Because the KD of yesteryear was good, then they made some changes and it was not good anymore. I’ve been an Annie’s convert ever since, though I do admit the sharp cheddar KD slaps.

pacwess t1_jadax4b wrote

Looking at the side dish I can only imagine what the lobster cost.

Strange days when KD falls below Annie’s. Maybe it’s changed over time as well as I don’t recall ever having it and thinking it was that good. Always fell short.

4

shellybearcat t1_jadbks7 wrote

Have you tried the extra cheesy Annie’s?????? My grocery store doesn’t carry it but Target does. It’s basically their normal cheddar Mac and cheese but with an extra big cheese packet haha it’s so simple but so brilliant

Reminds me of the time my family and I went to this seafood buffet and paid $80 per head. They served lobsters, oysters, crabs, and a lot more, but they served my sister Kraft mac and cheese when she ordered mac and cheese. We were expecting better for a buffet that we paid $80 per person, like we paid about $320 just to be served Kraft mac and cheese. Place is “Boston Lobster Feast” if anyone is wondering, there’s a few locations in Orlando, Florida.

karmicrelease t1_jaell54 wrote

I see no problem with this. Putting lobster IN Kraft Mac makes me angry though

2

A911owner t1_jaet0ie wrote

When I was working in the restaurant, there was one year that the iceberg lettuce crop was severely damaged (I think from cold, but I don't remember) the price of iceberg shot through the roof, and suddenly it was a delicacy being served by high end restaurants. They would literally serve a quarter head of iceberg with some blue cheese dressing as an appetizer for like 15 bucks. Once the price dropped again, it went back to being a "cheap food" for diners.
