I hate the wests obsession over smiles and being cheerful. you can be professional and offer great service without being cheerful. not everyone experiences cheer all the time.

Being cheerful is a good way to get told to fuck off if you work customer service in the UK. The hack is to get to the same level as the customer. If the customer is pissed off, join them in being pissed off.
