Oppo tends to make passion project tech that’s pretty cool at the time from a technical standpoint but barely support it afterwards and once they have their fun creating, never touch that type of device again or wait years to make a second attempt. If you know that going in, some of their stuff is nice

I have a pair of planer-magnetic headphones from them that they've discontinued. Great pair of headphones, and at the time they had the best price to performance ratio in their price range.

I have the same ones, they’re notable for being driven solely by typical 3.5mm jack power which made them compatible with everything. I don’t use them anymore but at the time they were nice

I love my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
I feel like nearly all phones are exactly the same these days - just slightly different screen sizes and specs, but no actual difference in features.
It's really fun having a phone having a feature that makes it unique and different from any phone I've had before. It's a fun gimmick and it's actually useful.

I have the 3 and I like it. When it was announced and they had a display at best buy I went to check it out and was like "ya I want this" so I ordered it. I wanted the original or 2 but the large screen wasn't as great because of the stupid black bar.
For me there was no reason to upgrade, not a big enough change to warrant it. Maybe the 5 will be much much better.

Me, I have one lol. I don't need a phone for all the utility things phones can do nowadays. All I do is scroll, text, and watch porn on it. The novelty of it flipping it is my joy
Camera is ass considering what's on the market nowadays but I don't take much photos either
tatang2015 t1_j0hxuqw wrote
Is the larger screen worth the increase in price?
clouds_over_asia t1_j0hz8lp wrote
Unless you watch movies/shows with adjustable resolution, probably not. Youtube has black space on the sides and doesn't make full use of the long screen. I'm sure you could make better use of what the flip4 does have to offer if you're savvy and do sideloading and jailbraiking type stuff, but I do not
GilligansIslndoPeril t1_j0iazmk wrote
I have the Fold, and while, yes, it's a big investment in, Samsung takes the sting off of buying a potentially fragile phone by making it cheap as hell to get it fixed/replaced. I pay $10/month for their premium insurance, which covers just about anything, and it's like $200-250 for a full replacement phone.
In terms of increased utility, it's amazing! I honestly can't see myself ever going back to a normal size phone. It feels so nice to read on this wideass screen, able to see almost entire articles without having to scroll. Youtube and such on it is great as well.
PiratePixieDust t1_j0j5k4j wrote

I have a flip 4. Personally the biggest factor for me is that I have a big screen that folds down to a small square in my pocket. If this was a slab phone bending down or doing anything physical would have my phone almost bending from my pants lol. Just uncomfortable.
Plus i got it for half price! So that made me take the chance on it. The only thing i think they need to work on is the hinge design so they can get rid of the crease, make it dust resistant, and give us a bigger screen on front.

I have one and its awesome for my needs -
- Very small form factor
- Screen is protected from scratches (because it folds away)

So it’s straight up not a consideration for me until it’s an iPhone because I’m not willing to tolerate android, and the tech isn’t there yet for acceptable durability.
But I straight up don’t understand how a person can dislike the premise. They basically universally allow you to use them folded at whatever size you choose. The foldable bit is just a bonus feature that lets you open it to a bigger screen when you need it. What is there to dislike about that?

Some of us like them. I get a lot of use out of my Z Fold 3. Was it worth the price? Probably not. Do I enjoy using it? Most definitely. Opened up that huge screen is great for navigation apps like Maps or Waze, as well as for consuming streaming video, then fold shut to easily fit into a pocket.
AstralProbing t1_j0h83qn wrote
Personally, I'm down for a foldable phone, just not from Samsung. I've never had a product from them that I liked, whether it was hardware issues or software (mostly software though).
Foldable, in my worldview, is the best of both worlds. Personally, I'd rather have a true phablet (which, in my view is a mini tablet sized phone, rather than the other way around. And the OS is tablet oriented, not phone oriented)

No. Before 1994 there were no smartphones. Someone had to have the idea for something new. Before 1986 no one thought to put a touchscreen in a car. Now they all have them. They aren't mutually exclusive. He probably likes the quality Samsung outputs but isn't a particular fan of the design of their fold series. A lot of these folds from other brands tend to be lower quality even if the design is a good idea.

I have a S10+ and the side-lock & volume button detached even when it’s inside a silicon case 24x7, Samsung has the advantage of 1yr additional software update support but for that requires newer devices to be bought.
DaShiny t1_j0g64s0 wrote
Yes, I work in an industry where I tend to interact with numerous phones from various brands. I have used a lot of these newer phones as they come out. The first thing that is noticeable to me typically is difference in quality. I'm not saying the phones are bad or that the quality is bad, just lower than Samsung flagship, which is to be expected considering how huge Samsung is. Not to mention, I was just trying to potentially explain that guy's POV, not trying to start a whole thing.
