Most don’t emphasize story, or character development of most of the cast, when there is a story it can be a slog or even nonsensical or padded to where they create conflict for no real reason just to pad how many fights are in a story. Most have the same mode, arcade, story for respective cast members, online, extras such as galleries. Most try to sell cosmetics different outfits and color schemes, see DOA and Marvel v Capcom see the aforementioned examples as the same for nonsensical story and character development.
All in all the online play can be repetitive too but still be fun. I don’t really play fighting games anymore I play one on an active basis, and it can get really frustrating a lot of the time, not even really the player base but the game itself.
They may try to add or change mechanics for no real reason, they might say it is for balance but you find there are ways to exploit that new “balancing” issue. If u enjoy fighting games good on u, but they can get repetitive and if you play too many they can all feel the same. But I mean the same can b said for rpgs, fps’s, adventure, playforming, cuz in their respective genres they all tend to borrow from each other.
