Meh, isn't this special edition the same price as normal oled Switch? So it's not that big of a deal that you have to buy the game separate.

At least they're not charging you extra for the game console without a game.

That's not irony. But a $10 price increase doesn't really seem egregious for a special edition console.

Man, you're really stuck on this, aren't you.

Yeah, I was incorrect about it being $10 more. If you notice, I asked isn't it the same amount for the system. There's even a question mark at the end. Because I honestly wasn't 100% sure.

Me being incorrect doesn't equal irony.

So once you work on your reading comprehension, maybe you can start using irony correctly.

So you bought a special edition console for the standard price of every other special edition Switch, expected a free game and it's Nintendo being cheap?

ChickenFajita007 t1_jebjv00 wrote

The OLED is $350 USD MSRP.

The special edition Zelda console is $360 USD.

Did you think you were doing to get the game for a massive discount?

Kirito3970 t1_jebshig wrote

In a way it could make sense, the Mario kart bundle was the same price as the regular switch but with a whole ass game

5

ChickenFajita007 t1_jebv1na wrote

Mario Kart wasn't a new game. It was 3+ years old when it was first bundled.

Big new releases are never bundled with hardware for the same price.

TotK isn't Wii Sports.

phenotype76 t1_jectq4p wrote

Maybe, yes.

There was a glorious time when every console would come with a hit AAA game packed in for free, possibly even more than one. Don't play defense for the corporations trying to squeeze more money out of us where ever they possibly can.

When was the last time a brand new AAA big budget game was given away for free in a bundle?

Quite some time. And thanks to people like you playing defense for the corporations, they won't likely be pressured to do so in future. Great job, now things are worse for consumers! You're definitely playing for the right team lol.

Few Reddit commenters are as annoying as the ones who accuse people of "defending" corporations when they're just...explaining how stuff is.

Like seriously where in their comments is ChickenFajita defending anything?

>Like seriously where in their comments is ChickenFajita defending anything?

Specifically, the sentence "Did you think you were doing to get the game for a massive discount?" which I interpreted as him being snotty to someone hoping to get a pack-in game (and from his other posts, my interpretation was correct.)

This is an example of playing defense for a corporation's right to make you pay more money than you might have had to pay a few generations ago. We used to get pack-in games, and as consumers our interest is to decry the fact that they've stopped, not to dissuade people from hoping they'd start it up again.

KnavishFob t1_jeas3lz wrote

It wasn't a game pre-order though, it was just a console pre-order. Unless you paid enough to cover the cost of the game as well, then obviously its not going to be included.

HoneyShaft t1_jee2e96 wrote

Smh, people actually defending Nintendo when most special edition consoles come with the game. Even past Nintendo ones like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate did. Probably the same people that will defend the new $70 price tag.

DrachonRails t1_jebu9az wrote

So everybody is talking about 10 dollar/euro/pound difference. Let me tell you have it happened in my case: I have no bloody idea what is the price of a Nintendo Switch so when Pokemon released picked up a limited edition, expecting it would include the game like a collectors' edition or Sony/Xbox limited console. After my surprise I ordered the game, but it felt kinda stupid. And I don't give a crap if I have to pay 60 dollar/euro/pound more.... Just include the game.

I would say this is to support resellers and "true" collectors.

ITCM4 t1_jeb0c50 wrote

They didn’t do this with the Animal Crossing Switch either. They did have a Mario Kart edition that featured the game, but that game was old by that time. It also didn’t change the design at all. Point is, Nintendo isn’t gonna give the game away for free, while paying extra to do an elaborate design.

This showed up on Amazon for 359 at the same time the switch OLED showed up on woot for 309. I absolutely thought this included the game. Isn't it typical for the special edition game-themed version of a console to include that game?

1

Gorgon654 t1_jebusk0 wrote

I think the idea is it gives you the option of getting it either physical or digital. Like others have said it's the same price as a normal Switch so I don't see the issue.
Allows you to get the console like a month before the game comes out as well, though depending on your patience maybe that's not a good things.

1

Guardian5985 t1_jedpgbu wrote

Special edition switch consoles haven't been coming with the game for awhile now. Last one I even knew that did was Pokemon Let's Go. Also, OLED models go for $349.99 vs $299.99 for a V2 model switch. Special edition adds another $10.

1

Skanach t1_jeeap1f wrote

It's only going to be part of my collection or serve as a back-up Switch for later.

Also got the collector's edition game, so I am totally ok with it. Don't want to pay 420 something to get it with a digital game.

Faeri t1_jeeds5p wrote

Doesn't the console come out on the 28th April? That's like half a month before TotK comes out. No way they would release the game early only for those who bought the console.

Your being the cheap one. Why the fuck would they sell a special edition with the game for basically the same price as a non special edition with no games. Of course it doesn't come with the game if you ain't paying for the game.

Ps5/Xbox run most games at 1080 120 frames.

I own a beast pc capable of 4k at 80-90 frames so I’m past 1080 and 2k capability at over 144fps.

This isn't a Nintendo subreddit, this is a gaming subreddit, and you're throwing a tantrum. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

I didn’t ask because I don’t care. I mean, I assumed you didn’t own a Switch because you’re throwing a temper tantrum that a six-year-old tablet isn’t in 4K. That implies you’re smart enough to do the research (because you can form words and sentences together), yet dumb enough to not understand the amount of power required to run true 4K, and that a Switch that could do 4K would be another generation (like what Steam Deck is).

The fact that you said you’re not buying “another” Switch kinda makes you look worse, TBH. Like, you didn’t even bother to look it up before you bought it. What did you think you were buying? A toaster?

No, one person’s point of view isn’t another person’s tantrum. A point of view isn’t giant run-on sentences with a mock question/answer followed by a blind insult to every person who might downvote them. A point of view is, “I hate that they come out with consoles that have special designs themed towards games; they should only be releasing the base Switch until they go next gen. Also, their ports of Wii U games suck.” See the difference?

Lastly, the reason I bring up “Nintendo subreddit” versus “gaming subreddit” is because of your “Insult everyone who downvotes me” schtick. A Nintendo sub might downvote-bomb someone for having a valid negative opinion about Nintendo, but a gaming subreddit is diverse. Plenty of people don’t like Nintendo, but for level-headed, thought out reasons. They’ll downvote you if you’re acting crazy, being an asshole, or just dead wrong.

Myslinky t1_jedjrnq wrote

> Every downvote is a bamboozled Nintendo user playing 13 year old games on your 'New' 6 year old console.

I don't even have a Nintendo, just downvoting you because you sound like a dick.

Nintendo is the only company for Zelda, Mario, Metroid and such. If people enjoy the product they get for the money they pay, then who cares if the tech isn't the top of the line highest end specs possible?

Who are you to tell people what they should enjoy and what they should spend their money on?
