I'm looking to get back to some Total War in the medieval period and thought I would ask is the Total War series of medieval games still the best or is there something else I should look at? It doesnt have to cover the wide area of europe and the mideast, it can be somewhat more restricted like a campaign.
I have the Medieveal TW and MTW2...the one set in China and the one set in England. How are the fantasy TW games?
Any feedback or suggestions welcome.
Thank you

I like the idea of TW games, but I think they have been repeatedly failing at improving the game.
I'm speaking as a solo player btw.
The artworks, sound and music, animations, graphics, UI, all look wonderful and really good to play. But TW series are failing to innovate in the battle and campaign gameplay, and the AI is completely crap and exploity.
These games do not give me the satisfaction that I am looking for on a tactical/strategical standpoint, it is arcady and rts-like, battles are won by the number of clicks per minute you can perform, units have no autonomy and won't shoot an enemy if they are 1m further than what their bow can reach, and demand you constant micro-management. The strategical layer is the same kind, where your enemy will constantly put an army exactly 1cm further than your max walking distance and it feels like you're playing pacman.
I deeply regret that TW didn't go for a more simulation gameplay, I just can't play this game more than a few hours before it frustrates me, although I usually like the lore, text, art and music so much, always a disappointment.
