The reveal at the end of The Witch was so scary to me as a very lapsed Catholic. The whole time I was thinking "Oh this is just hysteria," only for the rug to be pulled during the scene in the barn.

I also love how it could be read as something supernatural or explained by current scientific hypothesis regarding the cause for the strange behavior of people prior to witch trials.
