Reply to Led Zeppelin released their album 'Houses Of The Holy' 50 years ago today by YoureASkyscraper
I remember a friend introducing me to this back in HS (this was decades after it was released) and it, as well as several other Zeppelin albums, became our default adventure/day trip music. Of course the magic part was that if we were heading towards the coast we'd literally have to travel to "Over The Hills and Far Away" to get to "The Ocean"—and if there wasn't a lot of traffic the trip take the entire duration of the album give or take a song. You couldn't ask for a better soundtrack.

I also love how it could be read as something supernatural or explained by current scientific hypothesis regarding the cause for the strange behavior of people prior to witch trials.

Theatrical is a solid version to watch and probably the right one. That said I own the Redux version since it had some additional content. Of course the way that it was placed into the film disrupts the flow a bit, but does fit in with the various messages and metaphors in the film. Also, the effect of those additional scenes makes the film a bit spookier and adds to the feeling of things progressing from reality towards insanity the closer they get to Kurtz. It's by no means a bad cut, just really, really long and definitely not something to watch on a whim. I can't truly speak about the Final Cut version since I haven't personally watched it, but I've heard that it's shorter, but still a more difficult watch than the Theatrical version.

I would say that it actually does end up being surreal considering the way the Redux version sits. It goes from being firmly grounded in sanity and reality and works towards the madness of Kurtz.

Pretty certain this is what happens when you make a really, really wrong turn in The Oregon Trail. Though in all seriousness this is pretty awesome and it makes really good use of an extremely limited color palette!

Well based on this image (as well as a few from the lake that I saw after looking it up) this would be another place that I'm adding to my list of places to visit! There's something about the boulders, the mountain, the snow, and the tall pines that's kind of joyful.

I saw the mountains and went, "that's pretty cool!" Then I saw the aspens and the scale dawned on me. Looks like this is a place that I really need to travel to! Do you have a favorite season to visit?

It's got a nice Art of Rally feel about the shading and color palette.
