I can confirm that the iPhone will still read NFCs while the piece is attached, and MagSafe chargers will still work through it
I’m trying to think of a material it could be made of that would better address your concerns, but you could certainly add grip stickers like you mention; it would probably need to all be made of silicone instead of just the one layer. The thickness of your particular product could also be made to your preference if you reach out through the site before ordering

Thanks for the NFC info! I'll think about adding a layer to that Coaster.

I’ll add that the NFC antenna is actually near the top of the phone, not in the MagSafe area (although there is an NFC reader there for MagSafe accessories)

Thanks, yes I tap the top of the phone on tags to set HomeKit lighting scenes. I didn't know MagSafe used a second reader, but I guess that makes sense!
But this Coaster product made me wonder because it has its OWN NFC tag permanently sitting right up by the top of the phone. And another at the bottom corner.... I can't for the life of me figure out how you're meant to use them. Pop the accessory off and then tap certain spots on it against your phone? It does NOT seem to have a tag in the usual MagSafe location. Weird.
(Plus it is rather thick I fear—meant to lift the phone above the camera mountain. Makes sense, I'm just not sure I want to go that bulky,)
