eBay always sides with the buyer, get a refund by opening a claim assuming it was sold as not locked. If it was sold as non working because of it being locked then it’s on you for not reading more about the item before you bought it. Also, “buyed” is not a word and should be replaced with “bought”.

Come on, give them a break. It's very possible that English isn't their native language and they don't know the nuiances.

They weren't rude or nasty about this correction... why wouldn't they be appreciative for the information?

The poster not only gave OP good advice about how to deal with eBay, but also a very gentle hint about correct English. There's no reason to take it as aggressive or negative.
