It means your phone can sense them but the signal is too weak, so you need to get closer.

i’m at the restaurant i was in last night and THIS ONLY SHOWS UP whenever i walk closer to the restaurant (closed today for Xmas). does it mean i left them in the restaurant? Edit: The Airpods are also FOLLOWING ME as Im walking around. It says they are with me. Is this normal? It’s like I swallowed them

If that only shows up when you get near the restaurant, that’s where they are. You need to get back in there when they’re open.

Call the non emergency police line and ask what they can do to help

Maybe the flight will be overbooked and you can voluntarily take the next flight. Then you get a travel voucher, which may be enough to cover the cost of (AirPods), or depending on when next flight is you could go to restaurant.

For anyone who is going to comment you can’t use travel voucher to buy AirPods, I know that. Just figured his next flight would be paid for, and he could use that money he would’ve spent on flight on new AirPods.

Bro that’s a perfect situation for a non emergency. They may even have a key to the restaurant to get in or know the owner personally, depending on the community. I honestly would do it myself if I was in his situation

Write the name of the restaurant on LinkedIn or Facebook.

Find someone who works there.

Message them about your situation!

No, you’re the guy who first said to call the non-emergency police number, which is a terrible idea. Then a few comments later you give the most logical and proper answer that should’ve been your first reply to begin with.

You must live in a tiny ass town or something. If I was to call my line I’d get laughed at and instantly hung up on. The police should not be doing anything for anyone in this situation. The non emergency number is for things like newly formed potholes or to report the guy you just saw run a red light, they’re not personal problem solvers.

you don’t have to message someone like that. just call them when they open up again and let them know you left your airpods. see if they can mail them to you if they find them.

Really late to this party but curious what the outcome was? For what it’s worth, I absolutely hate the find my for my airpods. I once lost mine and it was useless.

You could ask around in the nearby shops, restaurants, etc. they might know someone from the restaurant

Same boat I'm in right now. Says that they are outside of the case, with me in my house, and it's been that way since Dec 6. I've pretty much wrote them off at this point.

Look up the restaurant’s owner name. Look up the owner phone number. Call tonight. Get AirPods. Fly home. Happy New Year!

It means they are nearby somewhere, and have to keep looking around. I'll give you an example, I lost my AirPods last week, didn't lose them technically, like misplaced them in my house. On Find My it kept saying that they are nearby and keep looking. I searched the entire house and couldn't find them. And then one night I parked my car on the driveway and as I passed along the garbage bins, I got this notification that AirPods have been found (I had notify when found) turned on. And then I realized they were in the garbage bin. What I mean to say is that it could be in any random place where you will never think of.

Does this actually work for you? I've never been able to locate my airpods with my phone. It searches for them forever even when they're right next to the phone! The airtags work fine though...

The AirPods get their position from your IPhones GPS.

Contact the owner of the establishment and tell them of you situation, ask them if they might have already found them.

If not, return when they have opened.

I’ve personally lost a pair of Pros once, so speaking from experience.

If you’re looking for a foolproof way to never lose your AirPods again, get an AirTag and an integrated case.

Given that you don’t forget to swap the battery on it once in a while, it’s an absolute lifesaver.

I lost my AirPods 3, for a month. Find My said they were at my work, like 40 min drive away. When I started vacation I had a very good look through my car and sure enough they fell into the crack on the right side of my driver’s seat. I am not a big fan of Find My, for finding accessories like AirPods. I think it was showing the last place they were connected to my iPhone … if you expect live tracking of a lost device like this, you are dreaming in technicolor. PS after a month not being charged in a cold car (5-10 below zero C° at night) the battery was still above 50%. I was impressed by that.

If it says connected they must be in the vicinity. Keep moving in different directions to begin with. Any luck yet? Also, your post is marked nsfw.

It’s telling you you are still to far for it to pick up the exact location. Follow the directions on the bottom, and keep moving around. It’ll walk you through it.

I had gotten my wife Airpod 3s for Christmas last year. She used them once in the house and then couldn’t find them. Find My was useless in helping find them. They never left the house, at least not intentionally. I had hoped they would show up when I took the decorations out this year but no luck. They must have gotten caught up with garbage and tossed out.
