Every night at 1-3am, there is a loud humming noise coming from the Newport construction site. Does anyone know what exactly the noise is?

My guess would be the exhaust fans from the Holland Tunnel are kicking in at that hour? If you walk around the neighborhood you’ll easily spot at least 3 unmarked structures that pump out exhaust fumes from the tunnel. But what do I know?

I think you may be right- it sounds like a generator. Curious why they need it only from 1-3am every night.

Those fans run continuously, not just at 1 AM. All of the air in the Holland Tunnel tubes is replaced every 90 seconds.

Could be the trains in the Hoboken Terminal, whichhave a loud idling or humming sound? I can hear them late at night when I'm on the boardwalk. That's not a recent sound though.
