Tall grass can have chiggers (extremely painful/itchy bites) or ticks (you can get Lyme disease). Neither are common in cities but they can be found. Best to avoid overgrown areas if you're wearing shorts.

I thought chiggers was a southern thing, I've never heard of anyone getting chiggers in the Northeast. My family and I have camped for many years and never had chiggers.

I've had them twice, once hiking in NJ and once from sitting in the grass in Greenwood Cemetery in NYC.

Huh. I've lived around here my whole life and never heard of anyone getting them. I wonder if they're another gift of global warming?
