Once it returns to the original screen, do you have Home and Cart (1) large icons in the upper right? Your shopping cart now contains one item but you have to click that to get to it. I know that's not the typical behavior exhibited by online retailers.

I add to cart, but no cart shows up. Maybe I need to do it in a desktop and not a phone.

I just tried it on my phone and had to turn it to landscape in order to access a dropdown titled "Menu" and get to the options for Home and Cart. (Without turning to landscape, the dropdown is blocked by other text and I couldn't open it at all.)

Yeah, even in landscape it's blocked for me. You'd think they'd make it easy to rob you.
