I can neither confirm nor deny that I was driving through this intersection on my way from my taxpayer subsidized apartment to my cushy taxpayer funded job.

I feel like we need to wait and let this legal process play out before I make any public statements that could incriminate myself or my father.

Just here to be that guy who chimes in that OP shouldn't have run that red light. Amy whoever was driving was well within her rights to back up over the body and continue serving on the city council.

Yep, Jersey City noble class has no time to wait until police shows up to collect the bicycle peasant, there’s a town to govern.

*would've been. "Would of", "could of", or "should of", are NEVER correct.

Language was created to communicate. Did you understand what they were trying to say? Then they accomplished their goal. No need to nitpick, correcting people only makes one look like an asshole

Dude, I don't know what to tell you. Better to be corrected and learn than to continue to go through life making the same stupid mistake. But, to each their own.

Very lucky to walk away in good health, but these bruises sure are scary - Drivers please pay extra attention to bicyclists/ bicyclists please be as aware as possible!

Glad you’re okay! Wow the drivers in this city are insane.

Do we have accounting of Amy’s whereabouts at this time??

malina118 t1_iwqbe1h wrote

That's awful, I hope you filed a report!

Also, expect to feel like an absolute hot mess tomorrow and for a number of days following. You'll definitely want to be preemptive with pain management and treatment. I strongly encourage having a doctor check you over even if you feel fine now. Major bruises have some risks of clotting and nerve damage.

Years ago my car was t-boned by a speeding SUV and I had injuries like that on my thigh from the middle console. Day of was painful but tolerable. Day 2 onwards was another story. That was over 3 years ago and I have constant nerve pain in my thigh where the bruises were.

Second paragraph is unnecessary, no need to explain your previous automobile accident to this person who is presently in…a simple “get well” shows more empathy.

malina118 t1_iwrod2k wrote

I used my experience as an example of why OP should seriously consider getting themselves checked out. Empathy can be shown in many more ways than "Get well!" and "Thoughts and prayers!".

Don't be so daft. My reply was obviously directed at the person who replied to you who was downplaying the seriousness of the matter.

1

malina118 t1_iwt4pyn wrote

Haha, not daft. Your comment came as a reply to mine so it looked like you were aiming that at me, hence the confusion at being called Amy.

It's clearly a reply to the person that replied to you. It is not a reply to you. Do you understand how Reddit works?

Those are some gnarly bruises. I sure hope there is no lingering problems after you have healed. Did the driver stop? Infuriating to see (and be reminded) that cyclists are so vulnerable in this town.

I know these jokes are in humor, but they're just unnecessary when someone experienced a traumatic event. I hope you understand <3

HappyArtichoke7729 t1_iwqtrpk wrote

It's not a joke, it's dead serious. The city is literally run by someone who mows down bicyclists and then illegally leaves the scene. This is no laughing matter.

17

fasulo_ t1_iwqrg35 wrote

Yes it’s a joke, but it’s also to keep the fact that a council person who committed a felony hit and run has still not been served equal justice under the law. I didn’t mean to offend you and I am sorry that you’ve been hurt. It also upsets me that someone who does this doesn’t face any repercussions.

When justice is served equally, and people in power can’t get away with this kind of vehicular negligence, all of our streets will be safer. Perhaps if there was a culture of accountability, you would never have had to post this photo.

So sorry that happened to you, I hope you heal up soon.

I bike that route nearly every day and it’s a scary intersection. High speed traffic and many motorists turning right on red without slowing, or turning directly across the bike lanes without looking.

lazysloath1 t1_iwurxfv wrote

The drivers in this city are WAY MORE dangerous for bikers than the drivers in Manhattan. It’s wild

1

aa043 t1_iwvjkku wrote

We support biking for fresh air, exercise, etc. but please understand how risky it is.

Cycling with electric powered bikes probably adds to the existing large pool of poor drivers. (vehicles changing lanes in tunnels and illegal left turns on 139 happen almost every day;
crossing a solid line is not a minor mistake, it can kill people).

In Hoboken, a driver talked to the local councilman who unlocked a Citibike near an intersection where he could have easily crossed to the bike lane instead of following another cyclist and cutting in front of driver. Lucky councilman was slightly bumped later at low speeds.

I used to walk up and down and across and back on Montgomery all the time, East to West. Never found it to be so treacherous from a motor vehicle stand point to be un-navigable, on foot or on a bicycle. You gotta be AWARE of you surroundings at all times in this City! That's coming from a guy who grew up in Ridgewood, Wayne, Parsippany and now Rockaway Township. If I can handle it, ALL LOCALS should have no problems, whether on foot or on a bike!
