Quick question , I’m flying out of JFK and coming from Jersey City on Thursday and will be taking an Uber. I know that traffic headed to New Jersey starts at 4:00pm. But don’t know when traffic starts heading into New York.

My flight is at 9pm, and I’m worried. I always try to be there at least 1 hour and 30 minutes before, but this was when I take red-eye flights or during lunch, so I leave JC at 9:30-10:00 am/pm and get to the airport within 45 minutes to an hour.

Any experience you can share? Or tips on what time I should leave?

Budget up to 90 mins for drive time. Give yourself a margin of error.

Is there any way you can take the train? I would not want to subject myself to the Holland, Canal, or 278 anywhere near rush hour.

Warning almost no Uber or Lyft driver will take you to NYC. They have different regulations which make them loose money on the ride.

Made this mistake my first time on a big trip and had multiple drivers cancel before one explained why. I had to run through the terminal. Caught it less than a minute before they closed the doors.

How much luggage you have?

I would just try to get to Penn station and then catch the LIRR to Jamaica and air train from there. All together it's about an hour but it's semi comfortable if you don't have too many bags.

What about the Path to WTC and then the A train 🚂.

Since you want to be at the airport by 7, I suggest you leave at around 5 to give you ample travel time in case of any unforseen hurdles.

I'd take the PATH to 33rd and take the LIRR to Jamaica.

You will get there in time, but be prepared to pay upwards of 150 for an uber from JC to JFK during rush hour. If you’re traveling light I highly recommend public transportation.

Dropped my girlfriend off at JFK around 3PM on a weekday and it took 90 minutes from downtown Brooklyn. Train it as much as possible!!!

Maybe rides to JFK are long distance enough and they're willing to deal with it or go through staten island to get back to NJ. It's a crapshoot, basically. I don't blame the drivers I blame Uber and the government for screwing them.

I second this, if you can, take the PATH to WTC and get a cab/Uber from there, I think it will be more affordable AND you'll skip going through the Holland Tunnel. Last time I was driving through there around 4pm it took me like an hour to pass through it.

If you're Ubering from here, I'd leave at east 4-5 hours before boarding time.

Hi All! Truly appreciate your feedback!

Uhm for the most part I think the Path to WTC option would be my preferred if coming from Manhattan. But I was more on the thought to take an Uber because I plan on working in the Uber and not lug around my carry-on because frankly, I’m lazy.

I didan advanced booking. I guess now it’s really the price I should pay, seems like it’s $90++ at 4pm and $75++ for 5:00pm.

This is what I did in November for the second time after years of having friends to jfk . It surprisingly quick. What boggles my mind how LIRR a commuter train seemed to have more frequency reliability than PATH. There was a train roughly every 15 minutes between Jamaica and Penn station even in the wee hours of the morning
