That’s only in Worcester county and starts tomorrow
MA has "highway safety grants" that fund traffic enforcement patrols specifically.... They come in the form of a few hour blocks where the officer must do only "traffic safety" and not be available to respond to other "normal" calls for service. Sometimes they are linked to specific things like cell phone use or aggressive driving... but not always.
Usually when you see a bunch of cops out pulling over cars that weren't there before, it's liked to that type of thing.
I see aggressive driving by MA state police tailgating behind cars. Who do I report that too? It's not just in the passing lane..
It was a probability a special detail and they were all getting overtime for it, of course there will be six more troopers who submit paperwork saying they were there. When actually they were at home.
Thanks to the license plate cameras, they get a real-time readout for wants, warrants, registration/sticker expirations as cars go by. You don't have to be speeding, just illegal.
This.
I noticed. I drove an hour on 495 and they had cars pulled over everywhere.
Sign of an incoming recession. Need more revenue from tickets
The electric bill is too damn high.
I saw someone get pulled over on 128 on Tuesday. Lived here my whole life and I don't think I've ever seen a state trooper in the act of pulling someone over.
What??? I drive the Expressway and see it every day. Sometimes multiple times.
I got pulled over by a state cop
Bout time.....fear of losing money keeps the speeders in check....although how fast do you need to be going to get pulled over....I flinch at doing 68 in a 65 and seeing a trooper..
Over 80. Otherwise they will leave you alone. That’s why people get mad when there is somebody going 70 in the passing lane and never moving over.
80 is a pretty fair limit imo. I’ve hit 80-85 driving up to Maine/NH and it really feels “too fast” while 70-75 is perfect speed.
Depends what kind of car you’re driving, too. Can drive a Mercedes with your pinky going 100 but 80 in a Yaris is excessive.
Makes sense - just exposed my broke ass whipping an 02 Cherokee that shakes at 85 lol.
Yup
to your point OP, on Monday and Tuesday I saw a bunch on 128 between Newton and the 95s split (Canton?)… it seems like they have stepped up enforcement measures this week for whatever the reason.
I noticed this last weekend. I drove from Boston to Plymouth on Saturday and there were a bunch of State Troopers on that route, mostly on Route 3. Then on Sunday I went to Great Barrington and there were a bunch on the Pike.

I liked it better when they just stole via overtime theft and left us alone, rather than ticketing people on their way to work doing 10 over on I90/91.
Superbowl sunday. They are looking for the drunks
They are working on the next overtime fraud scheme.
They are busy stonewalling any police reform that was passed from actually taking hold and blackmailing the next governor into allowing their next money making scheme, which is probably not hiring, then saying nobody wants to enter the profession, then asking for grants to promote and hire more people, then just dividing the money among themselves somehow..

Since George Floyd, Covid, Antifa, and etc etc., Police all over the country have been laying low. Can you blame them? Well, things have got out of hand and people are dying on the highway and streets in droves. The powers to be would rather save gas and have the troops park on the side of the road like scare crows. It doesn't work. Things are out of control. You better knock off the BS. You know who you are. Smoky is ready to rumble. Drive safely.

I saw a post a couple days ago regarding a big sobriety checkpoint thing this weekend.
