So I was laid off recently and unemployment assistance requires me to setup a meeting at a career center. I received this message on the March 24th saying I need to go to a meeting by April 14th. So I do this only to find out in the entire state of Massachusetts only one meeting is available on April 12th two hours away from where I live. The only issue I have though is it requires me to do a follow up meeting by April 28th which I'm worried they wont have any meetings available before then.

THe Gubby's won't hand out money without making you a contestant on the Westminster Kennel club show.

Where aprox. do you live and where's the seminar?

I live in East Bridgewater and the only meeting I could find available was in Holyoke.

Harsh ,especially if your unemployed and gas and toll money is hard to come by.And being from Plymouth county you won't know how to get off the pike sooner and take the back roads to Holyoke. You'll have to go all the way to old Ex.4 and take I-91 N

I just went through the same thing, and I too was being sent halfway across the state. Keep trying; the third time I checked I was able to find a slot at the closest MassHire office to me. Alternately, find the number of the closest office and ring them up. There were empty seats at the meeting I went to so they can probably squeeze you in. They're actually really friendly once you get there.

I'll start calling around tomorrow to see if I can find somewhere closer.

Are you sure? The career centers offer the seminar all over. Brockton has them online fairly frequently

The earliest seminar meeting for Brockton is April 18th which is 4 days after my due date.

Call. They will move your deadline. It’s a bitch to get someone on the phone but it’s also unreasonable to make you drive that far.

Call the career center directly. The RESEA / seminar lady set one up for me, and she said so long as it’s scheduled I should be good. It’s a PITA though

I was given an extension due to having to take care of my family. Good luck!
