Malden confuses me with "Strong past, proud future." Not bad, exactly. Just seems backwards.

Really? I live in Malden and I remember seeing it on the sign and thinking, "At least that doesn't sound too cheesy"

Feels like that drunk uncle being kicked out of the family gathering shouting back, "oh yeah? You'll be proud of me someday..."
