this is a very good question. if you read the letter he wrote it mentions facebook, the metaverse, and mark zuck, but it's just a rambling mess filled with insane conspiracy theory stuff.

Right, an absolutely batty manifesto. but what was his end game? He obviously is an intelligent person who managed to earn academic qualifications and credentials for his position. Does he have an untreated mental illness? Was he dropped on his head? Or was he trying to prove a point about security? or?

I mean yes, anyone who does this is obviously experiencing some kind of psychiatric disturbance.

Idk if the manifesto was actually his true beliefs or if he was creating a scenario to get sympathy and attention. Maybe he had a relationship ending. He was director of the immersive media lab not exactly anti- tech/media.

Sometimes your brain tells you to do really nutty things, and sometimes you listen.

i do live on the edge sometimes. For instance the other day i put milk in my coffee instead of half and half.

Every morning I have cereal with a glass of orange juice, I have to make sure my half-asleep brain doesn't put the milk in the glass and the orange juice in the cereal.

Fortunately I've only ever done it once. Had to throw out the cereal and start over.
