Hi Guys,

Just need some advice. I bought a truck which came with 20% tints on the two front windows. I’m due for an inspection and took it to two mechanics who both said they will not pass it. I did some research and it is quite pricy to remove. Not sure what to do. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Razor blade and an hour of elbow work.

Or buy two replacement glasses, install them, get inspected, put the tinted ones back. Repeat once a year.

There are 2 ways to do this:

Get the tint fixed, either removed or removed and retinted to 35%. You can actually DIY this with a clothes steamer, razor blades, and some adhesive remover.

Look around for people with 20% or darker tints and kindly ask them where they get their car inspected and ask if they are hassled about the tints.

MA inspection shops are wired with cameras that the RMV can remote into at any time to audit inspections. They have to submit images of the cars. Its very heavily regulated. They don't make squat on inspections but they make tons of money on repairs to pass inspection. Losing that inspection license loses their ability to sell repairs needed to pass inspection and can be a death knell for the shop

Just get the legal tint approved by the state and no problem.

As someone who’s delt with a lot of stickers just go get it fixed at a tint shop, they will remove the old stuff and put 35 and do it quicker and easier then you can,

You can remove it your self with and 30$ steamer from target. A lot of sharp razors to help scrape the glue Baby shampoo and water mix in a spray bottle to remove glue. And some glass cleaner

I have 20/25% tints. Never an issue. I do know a guy though.

I had a factory installed tint on my new (at the time) car. I guess it must have been personal and they gave me a rejection sticker. When I told them it came that way, they replied another owner must have installed it. Sorry, I told them I bought it new. Should have seen the guys face.
