Not all blind people are completely blind. A lot still see vague shadows and some shapes. This may help someone using a walking stick.

Being blind enough to lose the ability to read but still making our shapes in bright light is common.

And I’m not being snarky. But if I were blind but could only see shapes would I understand if that the shape was a sign that I should put my hands on, on the off chance it had something in braille?
