I finally just watched this movie last night and I was blown away. All the trailers and previews I saw back in the day really didn’t impress me at all and that’s why I never saw it. It didn’t pique my interest.

Now that I have, I’m honestly kinda disappointed in the way they advertised for this movie and feel like I missed out on seeing this sooner because of it. Had they gone about it differently, I probably would’ve seen it in theaters and sung its praises for weeks. Just seems like a huge missed opportunity.

Am I alone in this? Did anyone else find the advertising for this movie lackluster?

Also, what other movies fall into this category? Terrible marketing, but amazing movie?

I don’t know about bad advertising but very minimal advertising is the case for Wrath of Man. Awesome movie!

Limitless. Absolutely loved the movie . . . when I eventually saw it. But when it came out, I was like, "Yeah, yeah, another movie about some new super-drug. I'll pass." Even when friends were telling me it was great and highly recommending it, I still ignored it. Yet, the film was actually much different than what I initially expected.

But, that being noted, if I had really known what the film was all about, it would have spoiled some of the pleasurable surprise I got from watching it.

I truly enjoyed this movie. Tom Cruise really showed his acting chops again as well as Elizabeth Bluth. And Bill Paxton was perfect for his role.

I still don't get the "No sir, I'm from Kentucky" barb.

Oh! Interesting!

I remember thinking the same when the movie came out and guess what, I still haven’t seen it!

Looks like I will have to add it to the list now. Thank you!!!

I've still never seen this movie. The trailer definitely was the reason I didn't go see it when it came out. It just looked "meh". And I feel like it came out during a time when Hollywood was pushing out all these bland Sci-fi, action movies.

Yes! That’s exactly how I felt. It kind of just blended into a few other movies at the time and nothing in the trailers made me think “I need to see this.”

Definitely worth the watch though!

The ads for the original Point Break were laughable back in the day. My group of friends had no intention of seeing it. Eventually rented it one night on a whim, and we ended up watching it twice back to back.

Honestly advertising for every single movie is pretty terrible, I feel its pretty rare when we get those amazing teaser trailers. I stopped watching trailers all together and makes for much better experience.

I'm not a huge Cruise fan, so it was never really on my radar. I finally watched it on Netflix one night and loved it. I've seen it 3 or 4 times since, and it's still on my watchlist.

Yea can be hard to avoid, then I would recommend never letting a trailer dissuade you from watching a movie. Trailers only care about appealing to the widest demographic possible, even if the movie actually doesn't.

It’s so funny to see this post today. For years I was convinced that I had watched this movie. I think it came out a at a time I wasn’t really going to theaters so I don’t remember the marketing. But I have certainly seen it suggested in watchlists on streaming platforms. I knew it wasn’t Oblivion but for some reason on a rewatch of that movie last weekend I thought oh I should watch the other one too. I sat through the whole thing waiting for something to be familiar. I liked how not Tom Cruise he was to start and I always enjoy Emily Blunt. Don’t know how I missed it before or it just came out too close to other similarly themed movies for me to realize I hadn’t seen it?

I saw this on vacation because it was literally the only movie playing in the tiny town we were in - I definitely wouldn't have seen it otherwise because to my recollection it just looked like a generic Tom Cruise action vehicle. It was so. much. fun. Definitely due for a rewatch.

Are you American? I think there are similar jokes in other countries

Like “do you live in the uk?” “No, I’m Welsh”.

It’s about how people sometimes identify with their state/city//region more than with their country

Bavaria in Germany Basque in Spain Etc

Ah yes Edge of Tomorrow. Or as some people know it, Live. Die. Repeat.

They couldn't even settle on the final name for their movie, let alone market it properly. The rumored sequel was gonna be called, no bullshit, Live. Die. Repeat. Repeat.

It was based on a book called "All you need is kill"

Then Edge of tomorrow was decided for theatres (generic, unappealing, wow tht looks awful vibes)

Then home release they went with the other title they almost went with as Live. Die. Repeat. Which still sucks honestly.

All you need is kill is imo the best title and not generic. It's funny what a title can do.

Guy Ritchie's King Arthur.

I bought into the reviews saying it sucked and didn't give it a chance in theaters.

Saw it on Netflix and loved every minute.

Sucks we won't get any of the sequels now, I really wanted to see Merlin in that world.
